TAFE Queensland is revolutionising the way in which students gain access to Higher Education programs, by partnering with the University of Canberra to deliver actual hands-on skills combined with a bachelor degree outcome.
TAFE Queensland's Coomera campus on the Gold Coast, will offer two degrees from 2016, Bachelor Gaming and Interactive Design and Bachelor Contemporary Music Practice.
Successful graduates currently studying a Diploma of Interactive Digital Media, Diploma of Software Development, Diploma of Music, Diploma of Music Business or Diploma of Sound Production, will be eligible for credit into one of the bachelor degrees.
TAFE Queensland Gold Coast student, Whitney Veitch is currently completing a Diploma of Sound Production at the Coomera location, after completing a Diploma of Music last year.
In 2016, the 19-year old singer, pianist and guitar specialist will be eligible to gain entry to the final two years of the Bachelor Contemporary Music Practice thanks to the Higher Education Program.
"From both a financial and personal development point of view, the choice to be able to complete my degree through TAFE Queensland has had a positive impact on my life," said Ms Veitch.
"This decision means I am able to continue my studies in an environment that I am both confident and comfortable studying in."
"I have seen many of the facilities that other universities have on hand, and most of them do not stack up to the quality that Coomera has to offer."
TAFE Queensland Gold Coast General Manager, Ms Jenny Dodd said Ms Veitch is just one of many students who chose to study a practical hands on diploma at Coomera and who will now benefit by being about to complete her Bachelor Degree at TAFE Queensland.
"Through our partnership with the University of Canberra more and more students will discover the benefits of staying with TAFE Queensland to complete their higher education qualification. We will start with two degrees next year and we plan to increase that by a further five in 2017," said Ms Dodd.
"The difference with a TAFE Queensland degree is we combine university thinking with practical, hands on learning."
"TAFE Queensland has a proven record in delivering the best vocational education and training in Queensland and our higher education offering is no different," Ms Dodd added.
TAFE Queensland Gold Coast at Foxwell Road Coomera (just near the railway station) will be open on Saturday 17th October from 10am - 3pm, providing the public the opportunity to see first-hand the state of the art facilities that Coomera has to offer, whilst learning more about the Higher Education Program being offered through TAFE Queensland.
