Students were asked to deliver sustainable and environmentally friendly design concepts for a space within the Rockcote Design Centre Gold Coast.

Founders Bob and Chris Cameron said the standard of work presented by the students was really quite amazing.

"We were so impressed and inspired by the ideas the students put forward."

"Choosing a final design to implement as part of our Gold Coast Design Centre was not an easy task," said Mrs Cameron.

The design brief was to convert an area that had been identified as a retail 'cold spot' into a space that drew customers in.

Interior Design student Amanda Holloway won the 2017 Rockcote TAFE Queensland Gold Coast Design award and her concept will be implemented in the next few months.

An award for sustainability was also presented to student, Leah Thomas. Leah was chosen as the recipient for this award based on her thorough research and application of sustainable design principles into her concept.

TAFE Queensland Gold Coast teacher, Kim McLeod worked with the client to conceptualise the design brief and support students through the process.

"Providing students with the opportunity to work on a real project gave them invaluable experience that can't be replicated in a classroom setting."

"Students were able to foster relationships with industry professionals that will assist them in their future design careers," said McLeod.

Rockcote Design Centre Gold Coast is located in Indy Court Nerang.
