QUEENSLAND'S largest education powerhouse has teamed with the State's biggest private health employer to provide up-and-coming nurses with an opportunity to get a foot in the door.
TAFE Queensland and Ramsay Health Care have opened over 100 training positions in 14 hospitals across the State for those looking at becoming an Enrolled Nurse.
The collaboration enables students to be partnered to their local Ramsay Hospital for an integrated learning experience as well as given preferred employment opportunities on completion of their program.
TAFE Queensland Gold Coast General Manager, Jenny Dodd said the new partnership will give students a unique training opportunity that will see them work alongside healthcare professionals and become part of the Ramsay Health Care team.
"We are thrilled to be working with Ramsay Health Care to ensure our student nurses obtain exceptional first-hand experience in an esteemed fast paced health environment," said Ms Dodd.
"As part of the partnership students will gain a minimum of 400 hours clinical placement experience within a Ramsay Health Care facility."
"They will gain experience in a variety of nursing areas including, medical, surgical, mental health, rehabilitation and some speciality areas."
Ms Dodd said the rise in employment opportunities across the health sector in Queensland had driven the partnership.
"The growing State-wide need for healthcare workers inspired TAFE Queensland to develop our relationship with Ramsay Health Care to give our students the greatest advantage upon graduation," said Dodd.
Liz Ohl of Ramsay Health Care said TAFE Queensland is a strong partner for the organisation as the education provider is reputable in delivering industry ready graduates.
"TAFE Queensland Gold Coast has already provided a great recruitment steam of Enrolled Nurses for our largest hospital, Greenslopes Private and also at John Flynn Private so we are excited to extend this opportunity to all other 16 Ramsay Health Care Hospitals across the State," said Ms Ohl.
The course is delivered over 18 months and consists of three components including clinical placement within a Ramsay Health Care facility, an online theoretical study element through TAFE Queensland as well as one residential school per semester at their closest TAFE Queensland campus.
It is expected that full-time students will need to commit to approximately 30-35 hours per week or the equivalent of 4 days per week to study.
The Diploma of Nursing is nationally accredited with graduating students eligible to articulate into the Bachelor of Nursing at various universities across Australia.
Enrolments for the next intake are now open for prospective nursing students across Queensland.
