Improve your career prospects with air-conditioning qualifications

If you’re a qualified tradesperson looking to upgrade your skills in air-conditioning, this Certificate course is the one for you. This three day short course covers the installation, commissioning and de-commissioning of single head, split air conditioning and heat pumps systems to a prescribed routine where the maximum plant capacity for each system does not exceed 18 kWr.

This includes wall hung, floor and ceiling suspended, cassette and ducted fan coil split systems and water heating heat pump systems. This qualification excludes competencies required for service, repair, maintenance, diagnostic/fault finding and electrical work or the safe and proper installation of commercial refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump plant and equipment. Entry requirements

IMPORTANT :  All participants are required to bring the following when they enrol:

  • Copy of your current Electrical Licence or Trade qualification

Please note: Existing workers may be included based on experience and skill.  The teacher will determine eligibility prior to enrolment. Please contact Clayton on 5581 8434 or email clayton.milford@tafe.qld.edu.au.

After enrolment, all applicants must complete a short quiz on Literacy and Numeracy levels using the Basic Key Skills Builder (BKSB) prior to orientation dates or prior to the first day of class.

The following documents are to be provided on the first day of training:

  • Copy of current LVR (Low Voltage Rescue) and CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) Certificate
  • Classroom Handling Licence from Arctick
  • Drivers Licence or photo ID

These documents will be used to credit you for a number of units within the course and you will only be trained in and assessed on the balance of units after the cross crediting.

How to apply for the Arctick Classroom handling licence

All participants need a classroom licence from the Australian Refrigeration Council (ARC) prior to commencement of training.  You apply for this licence online.  The website for ARC is http://www.arctick.org/index.php. The current cost for this licence is $26.00 and is payable to ARC, this is not part of the TAFE Queensland Gold Coast fees.

Step 1

Apply online
Once on ARC’s website you click on the Red Circle (Top left corner). Apply for a new ‘RHL’ Application; ensure that you apply for the Classroom license called; CL000 – Trainee (classroom only) licence. Fill in personal details and employers details (if applicable).

Step 2

Once completed online an e-mail will be sent to you with further instructions on how to complete the application. This e-mail will include an application to be printed, completed and posted to ARC together with:

  • A verified passport photo (this will go on your full licence after completion)
  • Confirmation of your course enrolment (you will receive this from TAFE Queensland Gold Coast after enrolment)
  • Signed Trainer application (you will receive this from TAFE Queensland Gold Coast after enrolment)

Step 3

Once ARC has processed your completed application they will email the Classroom licence number to you, please bring this to the first day of training.

Ensure that you complete your classroom licence application; this is a prerequisite for you to attain your installation licence upon completion of the course.  

Resources required

  • Steel capped work boots must be worn. 
  • Basic stationery will need to be provided by the student (i.e. pens, exercise books and calculator).

Timetable

  • Classes are delivered face-to-face at Ashmore, B Block on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday from 8.00am-3.45pm. 
  • The course delivery will be over three full days regardless of which category you fall under when enrolling (i.e. Plumber, Electrician, Existing Experienced Worker).
  • Further contact may be required for completion of workbooks and to gather further documentation to support cross credits or RPL application.
