Entry requirements

  • Students should contact their School Careers Officer.
  • To enrol, students should be 15 years of age at the commencement of the course.
  • Students must be in Year 10, 11 or 12.
  • Please note: Year 12 students need to be aware of the end date of the course and ensure every effort is made to attend every lesson, as any extension may impact the QCE cut offs.
  • Admission may be on the basis of maturity and other relevant work experience.
  • If you hold a current White Card please ensure you bring the original document with you for sighting upon enrolment.
  • Work experience is an integral part of the course and we recommend each student completes work experience as an opportunity to develop a relationship within the industry.

Occupational Health and Safety is a critical unit in your course. It is normally a prerequisite to all of the units in the qualification and generally completed within your first two weeks of class. You cannot attend any work experience or vocational placement without already holding this unit or completing it in class.

Funding options are available for students that have not currently enrolled in a VET in Schools qualification.  It is important that you carefully consider your course choice before applying. Please speak to your Careers Officer at school for further information.

Resources required

Students will need to wear steel capped safety work boots, safety glasses, pen, paper and calculator.

Timetable

  • Classes are held one day per week on Wednesdays from 8.00am-3.30pm for 9 months at Ashmore.
  • On the first day of class students should meet at Customer Service, E Block.

Certificate I in Construction covers some of the core units of competency common to all qualifications in the CPC training package including:

  • workplace health and safety
  • communication in the construction industry
  • the use and handling of construction tools and equipment
  • practical work covering basic construction techniques
