Get your head around accounting principles!

This course is for those who want to be able to interpret financial reports. It takes you through the three basic phases of the accounting cycle – the bookkeeping process, i.e. the recording of transactions, preparation, presentation and analysis of financial reports, and a case study on the development of a master budget. Information in this course is essential for business owners.

The following topics are covered:-

The accounting cycle:

  • source documents
  • journals
  • posting to accounts in the ledger
  • balancing accounts in the ledger
  • subsidiary ledgers
  • the trial balance

The course does not cover the actual recording of transactions in these records as this is the focus of a bookkeeping course.

The preparation of financial reports:

  • profit and loss statement
  • balance sheet
  • cash flow statement

The following aspects are included:

  • theory and purpose behind the reports
  • jargon used
  • significance of the groupings of information used in the reports
  • static information provided by the report
  • dynamic information provided through financial analysis

The preparation of a master budget which includes:

  • revenue budget
  • expenses budget
  • capital budget
  • cash flow budget
  • budgeted profit and loss statement
  • budgeted balance sheet

This short course is non-accredited therefore is not registered with the National Training Register. Course details

  • Please bring a notebook and pen to class.
  • Students need to present their Confirmation of Enrolment to the car park attendant each week to be eligible for discounted parking.

Classes are offered on:

  • Saturday 5 August - Saturday 19 August 2017 from 9.00am-3.30pm (3 sessions) at Southport, Level 1 (Ground Floor), Room 108

Please note - This course is offered twice a week on specific days each week. Throughout the year we vary the days that each delivery package may be offered to suit students’ needs and availability. Students are enrolling in specific days for the duration of the course. Refer to the dates on your Confirmation of Enrolment.
