Gain your Restricted Electrical Licence

If you’d like to apply for a Restricted Electrical Licence with Workcover Queensland you will need to complete the Restricted Electrical Licences (Skill Sets) course. The course provides training in basic electrical principles and their application, including safety and regulatory requirements for restricted licensing.  A Restricted Electrical Licence allows certain workers to carry out specific electrical tasks e.g. white goods repairer, repairing motors and heaters, plumbers: repairing hot water tanks, repairs to pumping equipment.

We currently offer:

Skill Set 1 - SSUEE0742 - Service and Repair Low Voltage Electrical Equipment up to 230V (Control devices).  This Skill Set is for tradespeople holding a current electrical work training permit from Workcover Queensland who wish to service and repair electrical control devices to supplies up to 230V.  It is essential that persons undertaking this Skill Set hold a relevant AQF3 trade qualification or equivalent.

Skill Set 3 - SSUEE0744 - Service and Repair Low Voltage Equipment up to 230V (Appliances). This Skill Set is for tradespeople holding a current electrical work training permit from Workcover Queensland who wish to service and repair electrical appliances connected by flexible lead and plug to supplies up to 230V.  It is essential that persons undertaking this Skill Set hold a relevant AQF3 trade qualification or equivalent.

Skill Set 4 - SSUEE0745 - Service and Repair Low Voltage Fixed Wire Electrical Equipment up to 1,000V ac (Appliances). This Skill Set is for tradespeople holding a current electrical work training permit from Workcover Queensland who wish to disconnect and reconnect electrical appliances up to 1,000V ac or 1500V dc for service and repair. It is essential that persons undertaking this Skill Set hold a relevant AQF3 trade qualification or equivalent.

Skill Set 5 - SSUEE0746 - Service and Repair Low Voltage Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Equipment up to 230V (Composite Equipment). This Skill Set is for refrigeration and air conditioning tradespeople holding a current electrical work training permit from Workcover Queensland who wish to service and repair self-contained refrigeration or air conditioning units connected by flexible lead and plug to supplies up to 230V.  It is essential that persons undertaking this Skill Set hold a relevant AQF3 trade qualification or equivalent.

Skill Set 6 - SSUEE0747 - Service and Repair Low Voltage Fixed Wire Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Equipment up to 1,000V (Composite Equipment). This Skill Set is for refrigeration and air conditioning tradespeople holding a current electrical work training permit from Workcover Queensland who wish to disconnect and reconnect self-contained refrigeration or air conditioning units up to 1,000V ac or 1500V dc for service and repair.   It is essential that persons undertaking this Skill Set hold a relevant AQF3 trade qualification or equivalent.

Skill Set 7 - SSUEE0748 - Service and Repair Low Voltage Electrical Equipment up to 230V (Resistive Element Type Water Heaters). This Skill Set is for Plumbers holding a current electrical work training permit from Workcover Queensland who wish to service and repair resistive element type water heaters connected by flexible lead and plug to supplies up to 230V.  It is essential that persons undertaking this Skill Set hold a relevant AQF3 trade qualification or equivalent.

Skill Set 8 - SSUEE0749 - Service and Repair Low Voltage Fixed Wire Electrical Equipment up to 1,000V (Gas Fitting Equipment). This Skill Set is for Gas Fitters holding a current electrical work training permit from Workcover Queensland who wish to disconnect and reconnect gas fitting equipment up to 1,000V ac or 1500V dc for service and repair. It is essential that persons undertaking this Skill Set hold a relevant AQF3 trade qualification or equivalent.

Skill Set 10 - SSUEE0751 - Service and Repair Low Voltage Electronic Equipment up to 230V (Electronics). This Skill Set is for tradespeople holding a current electrical work training permit from Workcover Queensland who wish to service and repair electronic equipment connected by flexible lead and plug to supplies up to 230V.  It is essential that persons undertaking this Skill Set hold a relevant AQF3 trade qualification or equivalent.

Skill Set 11 - SSUEE0752 - Service and Repair Low Voltage Fixed Wire Electronic Equipment up to 1,000V (Electronics). This Skill Set is for tradespeople holding a current electrical work training permit from Workcover Queensland who wish to disconnect and reconnect electronic equipment up to 1,000V ac or 1500V dc for service and repair.    It is essential that persons undertaking this Skill Set hold a relevant AQF3 trade qualification or equivalent.

Skill Set 12 - SSUEE0753 - Service and Repair Low Voltage Electrical Composite Equipment up to 230V (Composite Equipment). This Skill Set is for mechanical tradespeople holding a current electrical work training permit from Workcover Queensland who wish to service and repair composite equipment incorporating one or more current-using devices and/or controls and connected by flexible lead and plug to supplies up to 230V.  It is essential that persons undertaking this Skill Set hold a relevant AQF3 trade qualification or equivalent. Entry requirements

  • Please note: Skill Set applicants must hold a current Electrical Work Training Permit in the area they wish to gain a full Restricted Electrical Licence. Permits are obtained from Workcover Queensland or phone 1300 362 128.  Permits MUST be obtained prior to week 3 of the class.  Call John Raven on 5581 8434 or email john.raven@tafe.qld.edu.au for any information on how to obtain your permit 
  • It is essential that persons undertaking these Skill Sets hold a relevant AQF3 trade qualification or equivalent.
  • All participants are required to provide a current CPR certificate prior to completion of the course.
  • This course has additional entry requirements if you wish to take advantage of the Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ) funding option.  You must be currently working in the Construction Industry (provide evidence) as well as meet all other subsidy eligibility. Click on the Course Selector tool and select the unit you wish to enrol into.  You only need to select one unit to confirm your eligibility for this program. Please request a CSQ Declaration form from Customer Service to apply for this funding.

  • No specific resources are required to successfully complete this course.
  • It is recommended that students have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player.
  • This equipment and software is available for students to use at all TAFE Queensland locations.

Classes are held on Tuesday 6.00pm-9.00pm for 13 weeks and up to a further 20 weeks practical on-the-job (subject to change) at Ashmore, B Block.
