International Hospitality Service Program

The International Hospitality Service Program is an exclusive program designed to develop frontline food and beverage service skills for work in luxury, five and six star properties. As part of the program, you will undertake work experience with Gold Coast’s leading hotels and Resorts. Industry partners include Jupiter's Hotel and Casino, Sea World Resort and Waterpark and Palazzo Versace.

These industry partners are committed to developing a highly skilled workforce suited to Queensland’s international tourism market. The program has been developed in partnership with leading hotels and convention centres to provide students with skills that will enhance their ability to obtain employment in this rapidly developing industry. Entry requirements

This qualification has no formal entry criteria, however TAFE Queensland Gold Coast has the following selection criteria for this qualification:

  • Applicants will require a current RSA certificate
  • Applicants will be required to attend an interview
  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or above.
  • After enrolment, all applicants must complete a short quiz on Literacy and Numeracy levels using the Basic Key Skills Builder (BKSB) prior to orientation dates or prior to the first day of class.
  • To access Certificate 3 Guarantee funding for this course the prospective student must meet all the subsidy eligibility.
  • To access Second Chance funding for this course the prospective student must meet all the subsidy eligibility.

Resources required

Students are required to wear a uniform for all aspects of their programme. Students will be required to wear their own corporate style tailored black pants or tailored black knee length skirt and enclosed black shoes with a branded shirt. The branded shirts are compulsory and can be ordered from us following enrolment. The approximate cost of the shirt is $50 and we recommend students purchase a minimum of two shirts.

It is recommended that students have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for students to use at all TAFE Queensland locations.

Timetable

Classes will be held Monday-Friday from 8.00am-5.15pm for 13 weeks at Southport, Level 1 (Ground Floor), Room 103/104 incorporating a combination of theory and on the job work placement.

Subsidised

The Queensland Government will offset the cost of study for eligible students. You will still need to pay for a portion of your study costs. The amount above is what you will need to pay.

Certificate 3 Guarantee

You can receive a subsidy towards one certificate III qualification from a list of eligible courses. The amount provided depends on the demand for skilled workers in your chosen industry.

You're eligible for the Certificate 3 Guarantee if you:

  • are 15 years or older and no longer in school
  • live in Queensland full time
  • are an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or temporary resident with the necessary visa or work permits
  • and don't currently have (or are enrolled in) a certificate 3 or higher level qualification.

You are eligible for the concession price of a course if you are eligible for subsidised training, and are listed on an Australian Government Low Income Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card, if you are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, you hold a Department of Veterans' Affairs Pensioner Concession Card, or if you have a disability.
