The wonderful world of sport can be found on the front page of newspapers and in the news output of television, radio, and websites as much as on the sports pages and shows. Sport has never been so important to our daily routine and sports coverage has never been so popular.
This course will introduce you to the foundations of becoming a freelance sports writer. It will open your eyes to the skills you need, and introduce you to the craft of good sports writing. It will give you a few ideas to help you get started, develop techniques for interviewing, find your voice and style of sports writing, and suggest a few pointers on how to continue to build a sports writing career.
Presented by a former World Service Editor of BBC Radio Sport who started out as a freelance sports journalist and ended up travelling the globe covering World Cups and Olympic Games, the course will include:
- The pros and cons of being a freelance
- 21st century sports writing platforms
- Laying the foundations and starting out
- The keys to good sports writing

Complement your work experience with relevant marketing principles
Working full-time, I needed a flexible course that could fit into my busy schedule. I enrolled part-time into TAFE Queensland Gold Coast's Diploma of Marketing which proved to be the perfect balance for my restrictive lifestyle. I gained confidence in knowing that the valuable skills I have learnt in class can now be put into practice within my workplace.
A thank you to all our amazing students. We are so glad you enjoyed your time with TAFE Queensland Gold Coast.
