Yes?....well why not take a journey into the wonderful world of handmade jewellery and learn how to make your own stone set rings, chains and bangles which you can take home with you.  Come and explore the workings of soldering, annealing and fretwork whilst creating beautiful pieces for yourself or your loved ones.

Week 1  Basic health and safety training and ring making
Demonstrations: ring making – design, tools and techniques
Exercise: Design and make a silver ring

Week 2  Ring making - continued

Demonstrations: Textures and surface finishes
Exercise: Ring assembly completion

Week 3  Chain making
Demonstrations: Design, tools and techniques for chain making
Exercise: Students will start working on the design of their chain

Week 4  Chain making – continued

Demonstrations: Clasps – design, tools and techniques
Exercise: Chain assembly completion

Week 5  Bangle making
Demonstrations: Design, tools and techniques for bangle making
Exercise: Students will start working on the design of their bangle

Week 6
Exercise: Bangle fabrication and completion

Week 7  Stone setting – bezels and simple claws
Demonstrations: Design, tools and techniques for bezel and claw setting
Exercise: Students will start working on the design and assembly of a chosen setting

Week 8  Stone setting - continued
Demonstrations: Assembling a stone set ring
Exercise: Stone set ring completion

Sue is shaping up to be the Gold Coast's next big thing in fashion after she won the ‘Outstanding Use Of Material' category at the 2013 Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival in Brisbane. Continuing on from that success, Sue was also part of the duo who designed the Gold Coast light rail's staff uniform, now worn by drivers, line officers as well as maintenance and operational workers.

Resources required

  • Students will require: fully enclosed shoes, a note pad, a ruler, a pencil, a fine felt tip pen (preferably permanent marker for metal) and a glue stick.
  • Students need to present their Confirmation of Enrolment to the car park attendant each week to be eligible for discounted parking.

Timetable

Classes are held on:

  • Monday 4 June - Monday 23 July 2018 from 6.00pm-9.00pm (8 sessions) at Ashmore, B Block, Room B4.112

Please note - This course is offered once a week on a specific day each week. Throughout the year we vary the day that each delivery package may be offered to suit students’ needs and availability. Students are enrolling in a specific day for the duration of the course. Refer to the dates on your Confirmation of Enrolment.
