Entry requirements

This qualification has no formal entry criteria however TAFE Queensland Gold Coast has the following selection criteria:

  • Successful completion of Year 10 in the Australian secondary school system or its equivalent.
  • Sound levels of literacy and numeracy are essential for successful completion of this qualification.
  • Prepared to undertake the vocational placement hours organised by TAFE Queensland Gold Coast.
  • If you’re under 17 years of age, special enrolment conditions may apply.
  • Students need access to the internet and have an email account.
  • To access Certificate 3 Guarantee funding for this course the prospective student must meet all the subsidy eligibility.
  • To access Fee Free Year 12 funding for this course the prospective student must provide evidence that they have graduated Year 12 in the last 12 months. Therefore, if you would like to enrol in the course using this funding, you will need to provide a copy of your Year 12 certificate and meet all other Certificate 3 Guarantee subsidy eligibility.

N.B. All units in this qualification require access to a school environment where you will gain valuable on-the-job experience. The following two (2) units have an explicit demand of a minimum of 100 mandatory hours in order for a result to be given.

Students must be eligible for a Working with Children check or state equivalent (commonly known in Queensland as a Blue Card) 1800 113 611 or http://www.bluecard.qld.gov.au for placement (application will be completed in the first week of class)

Resources required

All resources and assessments are available and completed online.

Students are required to have:

  • access to a computer with a reliable internet connection
  • Microsoft Office software (or alternative) along with a headset with a microphone (for online lesson participation)
  • intermediate computer skills
  • an email address
  • Blue Card eligibility

Timetable

  • This course is offered in the classroom full-time or part-time mixed mode.
  • Students are also required to complete self-directed study outside of class time.
  • Students will access their study materials via our online Learning Management System, Connect.  

Full-time face to face classes are held for 9 months at Southport (Level 4, Room 412) and Coolangatta (A Block, Level 2, Room A.02.009). This option has a full-time workload of approximately 20-25 hours per week plus vocational placement hours.

Class details:

  • Term 1: 2 days per week on campus - Monday and Thursday 8.45am-2.30pm for Southport students and Monday and Wednesday 8.45am-2.30pm for Coolangatta students
  • Term 2: 1 day per week on campus - Thursday 8.45am-2.30pm for Southport students and Wednesday 8.45pm-2.30pm for Coolangatta students
  • Term 3: 1 day per fortnight on campus - Thursday 8.45am-2.30pm for Southport students and Wednesday 8.45pm-2.30pm for Coolangatta students

Vocational Placement details:

  • Term 1:  No vocational placement component
  • Term 2: 1 day per week starting week of 14/5/18
  • Term 3: 2 days per week plus a 5 day block (week of 13/8/18)

Part-time mixed mode classes are held for 12 months at Southport (Level 3, Room 314).  This option has a part-time workload of approximately 10-15 hours per week plus vocational placement hours.

Class details:

  • 1 class per week on campus on Tuesday 5.00pm-7.30pm for 4 terms.

Vocational Placement details:

  • Term 1:  No vocational placement component
  • Term 2: 1 day per week starting week of 14/5/18
  • Term 3: 2 days per week plus a 5 day block (week of 13/8/18)
  • Term 4: 1 day per week

Vocational Placement

  • Students who are not currently employed in the industry are required to undertake a minimum of 100 hours of vocational placement for this program.
  • Students must attend vocational placement unless they are employed in a school in a teacher aide role.
  • Vocational placement is organised by TAFE Queensland Gold Coast.

Payment Plan

If you have difficulty paying the full cost of a course up front you might be eligible for a payment plan. This will allow you to pay for your course in instalments, rather than one upfront payment at the time of enrolment.

Subsidised

The Queensland Government will offset the cost of study for eligible students. You will still need to pay for a portion of your study costs. The amount above is what you will need to pay.

Certificate 3 Guarantee

You can receive a subsidy towards one certificate III qualification from a list of eligible courses. The amount provided depends on the demand for skilled workers in your chosen industry.

You're eligible for the Certificate 3 Guarantee if you:

  • are 15 years or older and no longer in school
  • live in Queensland full time
  • are an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or temporary resident with the necessary visa or work permits
  • and don't currently have (or are enrolled in) a certificate 3 or higher level qualification.

The Queensland government has identified a number of industries with a high demand for trained workers. To help fill these gaps, they will pay the full cost of a number of certificate III qualifications in high-priority study areas under the Certificate 3 Guarantee and User Choice programs. We want school leavers to gain the important skills and training they need before starting their university studies or careers - debt-free.
