Develop your Spanish language knowledge and skills
The study of languages is an integral part of a general education. Learning another language extends, diversifies and enriches student’s cognitive, social and linguistic development. Language study gives insights into the nature, purposes and styles of language and promotes a greater sensitivity to and understanding of languages in general, including English. Literacy skills acquired in another language enhance skills in one’s first language.
Why study Spanish at TAFE?
Spanish is among the three most widely spoken languages in the world, second only to Chinese. It is the official language of 21 nations: Spain, Mexico and nine other Central American and Caribbean republics, nine nations in South America, and Equatorial Guinea in Africa. It is the second language in countries such as the United States, the Philippines and Sweden. Spanish is one of the six official languages of the United Nations and, after English, the preferred language on the internet.
Spanish is a Romance (Latin-based) language. It has strong vocabulary links with English and has a phonetic spelling system that gives it an appeal to English-speaking people.
This course builds on the skills that students mastered in the Spanish Conversation Level 1 and Level 2 courses. The emphasis of this course will be on the further development of the four basic language skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing. Some teaching time will be dedicated to the introduction and discussion of specific aspects of the cultures of the Hispanic World, through different types of media including music recordings, video clips, movies and short stories produced both in Spain and Latin America.
Students who complete this course will:
- acquire an advanced level of knowledge on the use of various tenses and sentence structures in the Spanish language

Sue is shaping up to be the Gold Coast's next big thing in fashion after she won the ‘Outstanding Use Of Material' category at the 2013 Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival in Brisbane. Continuing on from that success, Sue was also part of the duo who designed the Gold Coast light rail's staff uniform, now worn by drivers, line officers as well as maintenance and operational workers.
