Entry requirements

  • It is highly recommended that students have successfully completed Year 10 (or equivalent), turned 16, or have relevant experience and/or qualifications that indicate likely success in completing the course.
  • Some knowledge of live entertainment production would be helpful but not necessary.
  • If you hold a current White Card please ensure you bring the original document with you for sighting upon enrolment.
  • To access Certificate 3 Guarantee funding for this course the prospective student must meet all the subsidy eligibility.

Resources required

You will need to supply the following - (teachers will provide you with the details including suitable models and suppliers for each listed item during relevant class times):

  • Standard “theatre blacks” – the typical technician uniform. Plain black shirt, black trousers, sturdy black enclosed shoes with no logos.
  • Small LED torch, a multi-tool and standard riggers gloves
  • 1 x USB external hard drive to store/backup all of your class project files and learning resources
  • Personal stationery
  • Various industry memberships will be recommended
  • Textbooks and above listed resources are not included in the program fees.

TAFE Queensland - Gold Coast region will provide access to:

  • Photocopier (pay per use)
  • Computer labs running Windows
  • Learning environment - classrooms, theatre production venue(s)
  • Library reference material.

Coomera boasts industry standard production facilities including four Non-Linear Editing (NLE) suites, seven sound recording studios, a purpose built auditorium, a large multi-purpose black box theatre studio (sound stage), state of the art live sound reinforcement and lighting systems.

Timetable

  • Classes will be held on Wednesday 9.00am-3.30pm and Thursday 8.00am-5.15pm for 6 months at Coomera, A Block, Level 1, Room A.01.053 (Main Auditorium).  Timetable subject to change.
  • Students will participate in a minimum of four events (10 hours per event) over the duration of the course. Students combine with others from the Creative Industry courses (Screen and Media, Sound Production, Performance, Graphic Design, Hair and Beauty) in order to participate in events and productions, create industry materials and learn to work effectively in the industry.
  • Students participate in a variety of practical tasks including, but not limited to, a variety of musical and theatrical performances, studio recording sessions, filming of artist bios and song film clips, artist photography sessions and external and internal events.

Course commencement is subject to minimum enrolment numbers.

Payment Plan

If you have difficulty paying the full cost of a course up front you might be eligible for a payment plan. This will allow you to pay for your course in instalments, rather than one upfront payment at the time of enrolment.

Subsidised

The Queensland Government will offset the cost of study for eligible students. You will still need to pay for a portion of your study costs. The amount above is what you will need to pay.

Certificate 3 Guarantee

You can receive a subsidy towards one certificate III qualification from a list of eligible courses. The amount provided depends on the demand for skilled workers in your chosen industry.

You're eligible for the Certificate 3 Guarantee if you:

  • are 15 years or older and no longer in school
  • live in Queensland full time
  • are an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or temporary resident with the necessary visa or work permits
  • and don't currently have (or are enrolled in) a certificate 3 or higher level qualification.

Outcome

Upon successful completion of this Certificate III, students may progress on to CUA50815 Diploma of Music Industry - Sound Production.
