Get a head start on your career in plumbing while still at school

Build the basic skills and knowledge you need to start your plumbing career. This entry-level course will put you on the path to gaining an apprenticeship in plumbing.

Plumbing is one of the top three occupations in the construction industry with both general and specialised plumbers in demand. Plumbers with different specialisations are areas of particularly high demand. This current requirement for plumbers will continue over the next few years, however, the job market can be quite competitive in this area.

In this course you will be given the practical skills and knowledge to use hand and power tools, carry out welding, read and interpret plans, and calculate quantities and other measurements. You will learn about working safely and effectively in the workplace and how to adhere to the industry's regulations and standards. This qualification includes a compulsory, supervised work placement where you will be able to apply your skills and knowledge and gain valuable industry contacts.

Successful completion of this course will give you the confidence to seek an apprenticeship in general plumbing or roof plumbing. You may also seek employment as a trade assistant. Course details

The theory and backing to understand how and why we perform certain tasks

My apprenticeship training has been ‘the making of me' and has opened my eyes to the success I can achieve as an employee and maybe one day as a business owner. TAFE Gold Coast gave me the theory and backing to understand how and why we perform a certain task. I found the application of theory in the workplace gave me confidence in my trainers and TAFE Queensland as a training organisation.
