The Certificate II in Hospitality provides the important foundation to build your hospitality career.

This course offers you an introduction to hospitality and develops your skills and knowledge preparing you for your start in the industry.

Learn the basic skills to work effectively and safely, discover how to interact with customers, increase your hospitality knowledge and skills, and boost your cultural awareness.

Entry requirements

  • Students should contact their School Careers Officer.
  • Students in Year 10, 11 or 12 are eligible to enrol.
  • Admission may be on the basis of maturity and other relevant work experience.

Funding options are available for students that have not currently enrolled in a VET in Schools qualification.  It is important that you carefully consider your course choice before applying. Please speak to your Careers Officer at school for further information.

Resources required

Students require the following:

  • Black business style pants (male and female) (leggings and/or tights will not be accepted) or a black knee length business style skirt.
  • Black enclosed leather non-slip shoes.
  • It is recommended that students have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online systems, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for students to use at a number of TAFE Queensland locations.
  • Students are required to have a valid and appropriate email address. 
  • Please provide your own personal stationery.

Timetable

  • Classes are held on Monday from 9.00am-3.00pm for 12 months at Southport, Level 2, Room 245.
  • Please note that due to students being placed in live operation environments times may change during food and beverage training.
  • There is also some work experience required in a local hotel or restaurant.

Important Information

Course commencement is subject to minimum enrolment numbers.

To achieve this qualification students must successfully complete 12 units, 6 core and 6 electives.

Job opportunities include: working towards an apprenticeship in the hotel industry, working in a variety of hospitality organisations such as clubs, restaurants, casinos, cruise ships, island resorts, entertainment centres within employee food service centres, and catering businesses.

Successful completion of this course will allow students to obtain 4 points towards their QCE.  This course articulates into SIT30616 Certificate III in Hospitality.
