Hands-on training in event management

Upgrade your career in events with this advanced-level qualification. Positions as conference or venue coordinators and event or exhibition planners are in demand with up to 25,000 job openings expected in the next five years.

Students will have the opportunity to assist with the bump in of exhibits at the Commonwealth Games Main Media Centre and the setup of the 2018 Commonwealth Games Village Beauty Salon. These students will also have opportunities to assist with various Games related activations.

This course will give you the specialised skills and knowledge to lead and manage people, coordinate marketing activities, manage budgets, prepare quotes, and select venues and sites. Our highly-experienced team of industry professionals are the best in the business and will give you the one-on-one guidance you need to succeed in your studies.

Entry requirements

  • This diploma has no formal entry requirements, however, TAFE Queensland Gold Coast would prefer that students have completed Year 12 or be of mature age (18 years of age and over) with sound achievement in English and Mathematics.
  • To access Higher Level Skills funding for this course the prospective student must meet all subsidy eligibility.
  • Additional funding incentives apply to this course.  Speak to a Customer Service consultant on (07) 5581 8300 to confirm your eligibility.

VET Student Loan (VSL) - All applicants enrolling into this Diploma using the VET Student Loan option must provide a copy of their Year 12 certificate or an Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) Level 4 qualification or above issued in Australia.  Applicants that are not able to produce a copy of this document are required to complete the Basic Key Skills Builder (BKSB) test before enrolment.

Resources required

There is a set uniform to be purchased.  A representative from our supplier Totally Workwear will be available at Orientation. At this time you will be sized and orders made with payment directly with our supplier. If you do not attend the Orientation day, you will be responsible for making your own arrangements directly with the supplier, Totally Workwear within seven days of the scheduled Orientation day.

Students will be required to purchase two shirts with the TAFE logo.

The options are:

  • one compulsory black business shirt with TAFE logo (from Totally Workwear).  Approximate cost is $48.00 per shirt and;
  • one compulsory black polo with TAFE logo (from Totally Workwear).  Approximate cost is $25.00 per shirt.  This polo shirt is to be used for pre-event setup only.

or

  • two compulsory black business shirts with TAFE logo (from Totally Workwear).  Approximate cost is $48.00 per shirt
     
  • Black business style pants (male and female) (leggings and/or tights will not be accepted) or a black knee length business style skirt. These can be purchased from your preferred outlet or through our supplier Totally Workwear.
  • Black enclosed leather non-slip shoes.
  • Students are required to purchase the following textbook: "Event Management Theory and Practice" (2015 revised edition) by Jeff Wrathall and Abby Gee.
  • It is recommended that students have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online systems, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for students to use at a number of TAFE Queensland locations.
  • Students are required to have a valid and appropriate email address. 
  • Please provide your own personal stationery.
  • It is recommended that students have access to a reliable internet connection to access online studies and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for students to use at all TAFE Queensland locations.

Timetable

  • Full-time classes will be held three days per week at Southport.  Depending on delivery the timetable could cover days and/or evenings.  As such you will be provided with a timetable each term with your scheduled days with start and finish times listed. Timetables are subject to change.
  • Delivery is via a combination of on-campus, blended learning, integrated theory, practical application of skills and knowledge in modern classrooms, and project based assessment imbedded with our industry partners.
  • Theory and practical classes will be held at Southport for 1 year.
  • Please be aware industry visits and excursions may occur outside of timetabled hours.
  • Compulsory work placement will occur outside of timetabled hours.
  • In addition to the hours you will spend in class, it is expected that you will spend at least 5 hours a week outside of class undertaking your own personal study.

If you have difficulty paying the full cost of a course up front, or you are not eligible for VET Student Loan, you might be eligible for a payment plan. This will allow you to pay for your course in instalments, rather than one upfront payment at the time of enrolment.

Note: If you are accessing a VET Student Loan, and there is a difference between the loan cap amount and the total cost of your course (for example your loan cap amount is $10,000 and your course costs $11,000 - there is a $1,000 difference), you are required to pay the difference.

Subsidised

The Queensland Government will offset the cost of study for eligible students. You will still need to pay for a portion of your study costs. The amount above is what you will need to pay.

Additional costs

There is an additional cost for a compulsory uniform (see Resources Required on the Course Details tab) and you will need to purchase textbooks.
