The Bachelor of Contemporary Music Practice is focused on starting your career in music from day one of study.

Delivered in partnership with the University of Canberra, this course covers many facets of the industry including composition, performance, technology and theory, with embedded analytical studies of historical, cultural and technological applications in commercial contexts. It focuses on the nurturing and developing of a holistic, creative and entrepreneurial approach to music making, in order to prepare you with the best chance of success in a highly competitive and global marketplace. Entry requirements

First year entry requirements for this degree are:

  • School leavers must have completed Year 12 or equivalent
  • Non-school leavers are selected according to eligibility and merit, vocational experience, previous study and personal competencies
  • If you're under 17 years of age, special enrolment conditions may apply.

New students apply direct through QTAC using code 526040.

PLEASE NOTE: An audition is required in addition to your QTAC application. All auditions will be online. Once your QTAC application has been received, you will be sent information to submit your online audition/portfolio to this email address - auditions.goldcoast@tafe.qld.edu.au, more details below.

The audition process consists of;

  • Admission questions and links to your audition or portfolio.
  • Students must prepare and film two songs for the audition no longer than 2 minutes in length each displaying your performance skill, strengths and ability. If you have any work that already exists online (performances, film clips, production portfolios, releases etc.) you may also use them as audition pieces. 
  • Please film and upload to YouTube or Vimeo and provide us with a direct link to the video or portfolio (YouTube/Vimeo/SoundCloud/Mixcloud/Bandcamp etc.)
  • You won’t be assessed on your film quality and production value but please make sure it is audible and clear. An iPhone video is sufficient.
  • Each link MUST be streamable. PLEASE DO NOT send files (mp3’s, video files etc.). You MUST provide streamable links. If you send files instead of links, they will not be opened.

Resources required

Students must bring their own portable instruments such as guitars, strings, keyboards, percussion etc.

TAFE will provide access to:

  • Photocopier (pay per use)
  • Computer Labs - high-end Apple Mac and Windows
  • Learning environment - class rooms, editing suites, drawing rooms, studio space, tables, chairs, white boards, overhead projectors
  • Library reference material.

It is recommended that students have access to a reliable internet connection to access University of Canberra’s online learning system Moodle and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for students to use at all TAFE Queensland locations.
