Entry requirements

First year entry requirements for this degree are:

  • New students apply direct through QTAC using code 526040 or press the Apply button on this website to apply directly.
  • School leavers must have completed Year 12 or equivalent.  
  • Non-school leavers are selected according to eligibility and merit, vocational experience, previous study and personal competencies.
  • If you're under 17 years of age, special enrolment conditions may apply.

Please note: A portfolio/audition is required in addition to your application.  TAFE Queensland will invite you to submit a portfolio audition once your application has been received.

Second year entry requirements for this degree are:

Completion of a relevant Diploma, such as:

  • CUA50815 Diploma of Music Industry - Performance
  • CUS50109 Diploma of Music
  • CUA50815 Diploma of Music Industry - Sound Production
  • CUS50209 Diploma of Sound Production

These diplomas award a full year's credit towards this degree.
Please note an audition is still required for entry for graduates who have completed the Diploma of Sound Production.

Resources required

Students must bring their own portable instruments such as guitars, strings, keyboards, percussion etc.

TAFE Queensland Gold Coast will provide access to:

  • Photocopier (pay per use)
  • Computer Labs - high-end Apple Mac and Windows
  • Learning environment - classrooms, editing suites, drawing rooms, studio space, tables, chairs, whiteboards, overhead projectors
  • Library reference material.

Coomera Campus boasts industry standard production facilities including four Non-Linear Editing (NLE) suites, seven sound recording studios, a purpose built auditorium, a large multi-purpose black box theatre studio (sound stage), state of the art live sound reinforcement and lighting systems, full complement of backline musical instruments including acoustic/electronic drum kits, pianos/keyboards and a variety of guitar/bass amplifiers.

It is recommended that students have access to a reliable internet connection to access the University of Canberra’s online learning system CANVAS and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for students to use at all TAFE Queensland locations.

Timetable

  • Full-time classes are held over 3 years at Coomera.
  • On average 8 hours on-campus contact per week.
  • Two hour lecture combined with 2 hour on-campus tutorial, per unit.

Annual Indicative Cost

The Annual Indicative cost is the fee that applies to a standard full-time enrolment, which is 24 credit points. For more information about HECS-HELP visit Study Assist.

This is a Commonwealth Supported Place and you may be eligible for a HECS-HELP loan.

STUDY NOW, PAY LATER

HECS-HELP is an interest-free loan from the Australian Government that helps you pay for higher education qualifications, such as associate degrees or bachelor degrees.

TAFE Queensland Gold Coast receives the full loan amount for your course directly from the Government, and you repay your loan through the Australian taxation system once your income reaches a certain threshold.

You are eligible for HECS-HELP if you:

  • are an Australian citizen or hold a permanent humanitarian visa
  • are enrolled in an associate degree or above on, or before the census date
  • have not exceeded the HECS-HELP limit
  • have an AustralianTax File Number (TFN) or Certificate of Application for a TFN.

Subsidised

The Queensland Government will offset the cost of study for eligible students. You will still need to pay for a portion of your study costs. The amount above is what you will need to pay.

You are eligible for the concession price of a course if you are eligible for subsidised training, and are listed on an Australian Government Low Income Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card, if you are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, you hold a Department of Veterans' Affairs Pensioner Concession Card, or if you have a disability.

Orientation

At the beginning of each semester we host orientation events across our locations so you can meet your teachers and classmates, get to know your campus, and familiarise yourself with your study schedule.

Semester 1, 2018 orientation will take place in the second week of February at TAFE Queensland Gold Coast, 198 Foxwell Road, Coomera.
