You will have the opportunity to study different specialisations: sports coaching, fitness, and outdoor recreation. Depending on your specialisation you may learn how to plan and deliver coaching programs, assist athletes to prevent injury or illness, plan and conduct strength and conditioning sessions, lead and manage people, and roster officials. You will also cover topics including management principles, sports psychology, sports nutrition, or group training. Our highly experienced team of industry experts will give you the one-on-one guidance and mentoring to succeed in the sports industry.

Successful completion of this course will qualify you to work as a coach or sports development manager across a diverse range of settings.

The course has three streams which students can elect to incorporate into their qualification. The streams of choice are Surfing, Soccer or Fitness; and these areas will make up the practical activities undertaken throughout the course.

SURFING: Ride the Surf where the World Surf League competes
TAFE Queensland Gold Coast has partnered with Paramount Adventure Gold Coast for Surfing, to allow students to apply skills gained in exercise science, physical training, gym instruction and sports injury rehabilitation studies to a surfing experience. You’ll also learn the specifics of surfing and will actively participate in the sport.

Tuition is led by David Payne, Owner and Head Instructor of Australia's leading commercial Surf Instruction companies. You’ll learn about surfboard construction, meteorology, swell and weather forecasting, nutrition for athletes, the principles of sports psychology, and how to develop and instruct strength and conditioning programs for amateur and professional surfers.

SOCCER: Kick a Goal in your new Sport Development career
TAFE Queensland Gold Coast has partnered Keith Garland who has coached multiple premier league teams to successful grand finals. Keith made his full All Whites (NZ National Team) debut in a 2–0 win over Malaysia on 30 March 1984 and ended his international playing career with seven A-international caps. He is currently coaching elite teams at both the State and National levels.

Keith will facilitate students’ application in the essential skills of exercise/sports science, physical conditioning, talent identification, pre/post game performance preparation and recovery methods, tactical and game specific aspects of winning games, conditioning principles and sports injury rehabilitation studies through a Soccer (Football) experience. You’ll also learn the specifics of soccer and will actively participate in the sport. Tuition is led by a coach with a past world ranking. Additionally you’ll learn about nutrition for athletes, the principles of sports psychology, and how to develop and instruct strength and conditioning programs.

FITNESS: Change people’s lives with exercise
Help people lead happier and healthier lives as a specialised exercise trainer. Learn advanced skills in anatomy and physiology, corrective exercise, prevention and management of exercise related injuries, body composition management and nutrition for specific requirements. This course is for people who aspire to plan, deliver and monitor the progress of exercise programs for moderate risk clients, in conjunction with suitably qualified allied health and/or medical professionals. A career helping others improve their quality of life

Completing my Certificate III in Fitness has ignited my interest and passion towards the fitness industry. The personalised support, training and advice that I received from my teachers, made me learn a lot about myself and what impact I would like my job within the community to have. I found that my healthy, yet compassionate nature shared an appreciation for assisting those who are often seen to be neglected by the fitness industry. Working with the elderly and physically disadvantaged to help them reach their fitness goals and improve their quality of life is a career pathway I am proud to be contributing to.

Note: If you are accessing a VET Student Loan, and there is a difference between the loan cap amount and the total cost of your course (for example your loan cap amount is $10,000 and your course costs $11,000 - there is a $1,000 difference), you are required to pay the difference.

Subsidised

The Queensland Government will offset the cost of study for eligible students. You will still need to pay for a portion of your study costs. The amount above is what you will need to pay.
