Expand your career horizon in events

Make a start on a career in events with this entry-level qualification. This course will qualify you to work as a conference and events assistant, or in events administration.

Students will have the opportunity to assist with the bump in of exhibits at the Commonwealth Games Main Media Centre and the setup of the 2018 Commonwealth Games Village Beauty Salon. These students will also have opportunities to assist with various Games related activations.

There is strong job growth in the events administration sector with the Australian Government predicting more than 50,000 job openings in the industry in the next five years.

This course will give you the foundation skills and knowledge to provide event staging support, operate reservation software and operating systems, prepare quotes, and more. Our highly-experienced team of industry professionals are the best in the business and will give you the one-on-one guidance you need to succeed in your studies.

Successful completion of this course will give you the expertise required to work as a conference and events assistant, or in events administration. It will also give you the knowledge needed to undertake advanced-level studies in your field. Course details

Entry requirements

There are no entry requirements outlined in the National Training Package, however TAFE Queensland Gold Coast requires the following entry requirements to be met:

  • Completed Year 10 or equivalent with sound achievement in English
  • Mature age with sound language, literacy, and numeracy skills
  • Permanent resident of Australia
  • Access to the internet and have an email account
  • To access Certificate 3 Guarantee funding for this course the prospective student must meet all the subsidy eligibility

Resources required

There is a set uniform to be purchased.  A representative from our supplier Totally Workwear will be available at Orientation for you to be fitted, order and make payment. If you do not attend the Orientation day, you will be responsible for making your own arrangements directly with the supplier Totally Workwear within seven days of the scheduled Orientation day.

Students will be required to purchase two shirts with the TAFE logo.

The options are:

  • one compulsory black business shirt with TAFE logo (from Totally Workwear).  Approximate cost is $48.00 per shirt and;
  • one compulsory black polo with TAFE logo (from Totally Workwear).  Approximate cost is $25.00 per shirt.  This polo shirt is to be used for pre-event setup only.

or

  • two compulsory black business shirts with TAFE logo (from Totally Workwear).  Approximate cost is $48.00 per shirt
     
  • Black business style pants (male and female) (leggings and/or tights will not be accepted) or a black knee length business style skirt. These can be purchased from your preferred outlet or through our supplier Totally Workwear.
  • Black enclosed leather non-slip shoes.
  • It is recommended that students have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online systems, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for students to use at a number of TAFE Queensland locations.
  • Students are required to have a valid and appropriate email address. 
  • Please provide your own personal stationery.

Timetable

This course is offered full-time over 18 weeks with classes held on Monday 8.00am-3.00pm, Wednesday 10.15am-3.00pm and Thursday 8.00am-3.00pm at Southport, Level 4, Room 409. Times may change, so please be sure to consult your timetable in Connect. Students may be required to attend class outside of these hours due to the operation of their ‘live’ event as well as industry visits/excursions.

Payment Plan

If you have difficulty paying the full cost of a course up front you might be eligible for a payment plan. This will allow you to pay for your course in instalments, rather than one upfront payment at the time of enrolment.

Subsidised

The Queensland Government will offset the cost of study for eligible students. You will still need to pay for a portion of your study costs. The amount above is what you will need to pay.

Certificate 3 Guarantee

You can receive a subsidy towards one certificate III qualification from a list of eligible courses. The amount provided depends on the demand for skilled workers in your chosen industry.

You're eligible for the Certificate 3 Guarantee if you:

  • are 15 years or older and no longer in school
  • live in Queensland full time
  • are an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or temporary resident with the necessary visa or work permits
  • and don't currently have (or are enrolled in) a certificate 3 or higher level qualification.

Events are diverse in nature and this qualification provides a pathway to work for event or exhibition organisations operating in a range of industries including the tourism and travel, hospitality, sport, cultural and community sectors.

The diversity of employers includes event or exhibition management companies, event venues, or organisations that organise their own events. Work could be undertaken in an office environment where the planning of events takes place, on-site at venues where events are staged or a combination of both.
