Entry requirements

This qualification has no formal entry criteria however TAFE Queensland Gold Coast has the following selection criteria:

  • Students must hold a CHC30213 Certificate III in Education Support or be an existing worker. Please bring your original award or transcript, or supply a certified copy, as these must be provided at enrolment.
  • Successful completion of Year 10 in the Australian secondary school system or its equivalent.
  • Sound levels of literacy and numeracy are essential for successful completion of this qualification.
  • Students must be eligible to obtain a Queensland Blue Card.
  • If you’re under 18 years of age, special enrolment conditions may apply.
  • Students need access to the internet and have an email account.
  • To access Certificate 3 Guarantee funding for this course the prospective student must meet all the subsidy eligibility.
  • Further funding incentives apply to this course.  Please speak with a Customer Service Consultant on (07) 5581 8300 to check your eligibility.

N.B. All units in this qualification require access to a school environment where you will gain valuable on-the-job experience. The following two (2) units have an explicit demand of a minimum of 100 mandatory hours in order for a result to be given.

  • CHCEDS002 Assist implementation of planned educational programs
  • CHCEDS003 Contribute to student education in all developmental domains

Students must be eligible for a Working with Children check or state equivalent (commonly known in Queensland as a Blue Card) 1800 113 611 or http://www.bluecard.qld.gov.au for placement (application will be completed in the first week of class).

Resources required

All resources and assessments are available and completed online.

Students are required to have:

  • access to a computer with a reliable internet connection
  • Microsoft Office software (or alternative) along with a headset with a microphone (for online lesson participation)
  • intermediate computer skills
  • an email address
  • Blue Card eligibility

Timetable

  • This program consists of 7 units delivered over 6 months (two terms) using a mixed mode delivery model. This requires that students attend a 2½ hour class on a weekly basis (Tuesday 5.00pm-7.30pm) at Southport (first class on Level 2, Room 206) as well as self-directed learning.
  • Students will access their study materials via our online Learning Management System, Connect.  
  • This course is full-time and requires approximately 20-25 hours per week study commitment plus vocational placement attendance.

Placement

Vocational Placement

  • Students who are not currently employed in the industry are required to undertake a minimum of 100 hours of vocational placement for this program.
  • Students must attend vocational placement unless they are employed in a school in a teacher aide role.
  • Vocational placement is organised by TAFE Queensland Gold Coast.

Course commencement is subject to minimum enrolment numbers.

To achieve the Certificate IV in Education Support students must be competent in 17 units, 12 core and 5 electives.  For those that have successfully completed the CHC30213 Certificate III in Education Support at TAFE Queensland - Gold Coast Region only 7 additional units are required to achieve the Certificate IV qualification.
