Live and breathe music

Kick start your career in the music industry with this entry-level qualification. This course will give you access to industry-standard studios and the foundation skills needed to operate equipment and software, and record and mix music. Research shows that creativity, communication and problem-solving will be the most desired skills in the future job market. This qualification will give you the core skills needed to work in both the creative industries and in corporate settings.

Learn how to protect your music with copyright arrangements, notate music, compose music using electronic media, and develop technical skills in performance. Our highly experienced and passionate teaching team have years of industry experience and will give you the one-on-one guidance you need to prepare you for a career in the music industry.

Entry requirements

TAFE Queensland Gold Coast requires the following:

  • Students must be 16 years of age or over.
  • Instrumentalists and vocalists must possess a reasonable degree of ability in their chosen field with a desire to improve their technique, musicianship and industry knowledge.
  • Mature age learners who wish to strengthen their musicianship and theory knowledge or update their industry knowledge are welcome.
  • To access Certificate 3 Guarantee funding for this course the prospective student must meet all the subsidy eligibility.
  • Further funding incentives apply to this course.  Please speak with a Customer Service Consultant on (07) 5581 8300 to check your eligibility.

Resources required

No specific resources are required to successfully complete this course.

It is recommended that students have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland Gold Coast's online learning system, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player.

This equipment and software is available for students to use at all TAFE Queensland locations.

Timetable

Classes are held on Thursday 8.00am-4.15pm and Friday 8.00am-4.00pm for 6 months at Coomera, A Block, Level 1, Room A.01.053 (Main Auditorium).

Payment Plan

Subsidised

The Queensland Government will offset the cost of study for eligible students. You will still need to pay for a portion of your study costs. The amount above is what you will need to pay.

Certificate 3 Guarantee

You can receive a subsidy towards one certificate III qualification from a list of eligible courses. The amount provided depends on the demand for skilled workers in your chosen industry.

You're eligible for the Certificate 3 Guarantee if you:

  • are 15 years or older and no longer in school
  • live in Queensland full time
  • are an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or temporary resident with the necessary visa or work permits
  • and don't currently have (or are enrolled in) a certificate 3 or higher level qualification.

Additional costs

There are no additional costs associated with this course, however students may incur costs to own personal instruments and support their musical interests.

Outcome

This course will provide students with the ability to move into the workplace as a performing musician, assistant music manager and assistant sound mixer applying a variety of skills learned to conduct themselves successfully in the music industry.

Progressive study into the CUA50815 Diploma of Music Industry will allow students to enter the workplace as a song writer, sound engineer/designer, music producer, composer/arranger, live sound engineer, accomplished performer or theatre technician.
