Kick start your career as a hairdresser with this entry-level qualification. This course is an essential minimum requirement for every hairdresser. Employment opportunities in hairdressing are forecast to increase around Australia by up to 50,000 new positions with the next five years.

Learn modern salon operations including how to colour and lighten hair, provide shampoo and basin services, and how to design and cut hair. All of this will take place in the classroom and in a simulated professional salon environment.

Successful completion of this course will provide you all you need to confidently seek employment opportunities in hairdressing. Course details

Resources required

  • Students must supply their own hairdressing tools (not electrical) and stationery.
  • Students are required to wear professional attire and enclosed non-slip shoes (high heels and beach wear are not appropriate).
  • It is mandatory for students to purchase a hairdressing tool kit from TAFE Queensland Gold Coast on the first day for approximately $700.00.  This is in addition to the course fees.

Timetable

  • Classes are held on Thursdays and Fridays from 9.00am-5.00pm for 12 months at Southport.
  • Students are expected to complete 8 additional hours of self-directed study.

Placement

Vocational placement will be held for one day per week for the last two terms.

Course commencement is subject to minimum enrolment numbers.

Payment Plan

If you have difficulty paying the full cost of a course up front you might be eligible for a payment plan. This will allow you to pay for your course in instalments, rather than one upfront payment at the time of enrolment.

Subsidised

The Queensland Government will offset the cost of study for eligible students. You will still need to pay for a portion of your study costs. The amount above is what you will need to pay.

Concession

You are eligible for the concession price of a course if you are eligible for subsidised training, and are listed on an Australian Government Low Income Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card, if you are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, you hold a Department of Veterans' Affairs Pensioner Concession Card, or if you have a disability.

Recognition of prior learning
