This course will prepare you to work for training providers including TAFE institutes and private Registered Training Organisations (RTO).

Entry requirements

Those entering this program must be able to demonstrate vocational competency in their proposed teaching and assessing area. Vocational competency is defined as broad industry knowledge and experience, and may include, but is not limited to, holding a relevant unit of competency or qualification.

This course has no formal entry criteria however TAFE Queensland Gold Coast has the following selection criteria for this qualification:

  • Intermediate computer skills in order to utilise online resources
  • A high level of literacy and numeracy
  • Access to the internet and have a current email address
  • Microsoft Word and headphones or speakers on your computer
  • Access to a workplace in which to conduct training and assessment
  • Basic knowledge/experience in vocational education and training is an advantage
  • If you’re under 17 years of age, special enrolment conditions may apply.

Resources required

  • All course materials are provided to the student in electronic format.
  • Students must have access to a computer or internet at home/work or you may use those available at any of our campuses during their normal hours of operation.
  • Students will also need a USB memory stick.  It is also advisable to have a back-up copy of your assessment tasks.

Technical Specifications
Prospective students must have the following computer technical specifications before they can access the course materials and participate in the learning program:

  • Minimum screen resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels
  • Windows PC or Apple Mac - please note: portable devices (smartphones, iPads, tablets, slates) do not necessarily support all the features of Connect, our Learning Management System, and may not work properly for submitting assessments
  • Computer running a minimum of Windows 7 or Apple Macintosh OSX 10.8
  • Connect has been designed to function on these minimum browser versions: Google Chrome (latest) (highly recommended for students), Firefox (latest), Safari (latest), Internet Explorer 10 - older versions of browsers may not correctly display information
  • ADSL or Cable Broadband is highly recommended
  • Audio playback enabled on your computer (many activities use audio interaction)
  • Students may require a headset with the capacity to listen and talk back (USB connection headsets are known to give superior sound quality)

To be able to have full access to the materials available to you on Connect, you are required to have the following software and plugins installed on your computer:

  • Adobe Flash Player
    To complete this course, you are required to have the Adobe Flash Player installed on your computer. Certain presentations and activities are delivered in Flash format that requires this player (plugin). You can download the Adobe Flash Player from http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
  • Adobe Reader
    To be able to view particular readings and also access the study guides within this course you are required to have the Adobe Reader plugin/program installed on your computer. You can download the Adobe Reader from http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html
  • Microsoft Word
    To read and complete assessments you are required to have Microsoft Word installed on your computer.

Timetable

  • Students studying face-to-face will attend classes every second Saturday from 8.30am to 2.30pm and attend tutorial classes throughout the year at Southport over 11 months.
  • There is also a mixed mode option which consists of webinars and online room learning.
  • Contact TAFE Queensland Gold Coast to discuss your preferred training option. 
  • Students can expect to invest between 8 and 12 hours per week over and above classroom/online room learning and webinar teacher guided delivery to complete online studies.

Payment Plan

If you have difficulty paying the full cost of a course up front you might be eligible for a payment plan. This will allow you to pay for your course in instalments, rather than one upfront payment at the time of enrolment.

Subsidised

The Queensland Government will offset the cost of study for eligible students. You will still need to pay for a portion of your study costs. The amount above is what you will need to pay.

Concession

You are eligible for the concession price of a course if you are eligible for subsidised training, and are listed on an Australian Government Low Income Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card, if you are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, you hold a Department of Veterans' Affairs Pensioner Concession Card, or if you have a disability.
