A Construction Skills Queensland initiative

TAFE Queensland Gold Coast and Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ)

TAFE Queensland Gold Coast in partnership with CSQ is offering financial and professional support to the Queensland building and construction industry.

Who is Construction Skills Queensland?

Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ) is an independent industry funded body supporting employers, workers, apprentices and career seekers in the building and construction industry. CSQ believes that a successful industry relies on a combination of world class capability and access to the best knowledge.

If you are currently working in the Queensland building and construction industry you may be eligible for Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ) funded training to advance or expand your skills with a CSQ listed program.

TAFE Queensland Gold Coast and CSQ offer 4 different types of funding:

  • Higher Level Skills: certificate IV and diploma level training for people looking to take their career to the next level.
  • Skill Assessment and Gap Training (SAGT): Recognition of prior learning and gap training for people already working in the construction industry.
  • Short Courses: Perfect for people looking to learn new and important skills.
  • Trade Start Program: This program provides job ready skills through an entry level qualification. Suited to people with no previous building or construction experience, including school leavers or those working in a different industry.

TAFE Queensland Gold Coast and CSQ student achievements

Each year the CSQ Excellence Awards are held in Brisbane. These awards are the Queensland building and construction industry's most prestigious annual event. Recent successes include:

  • 2014 - Shannon Witt; Finalist, Construction Apprentice of the Year
  • 2013 - Corban Jackson-Lewis, Finalist, Construction School Student of the Year

I started the Trade Start program in early February 2016 and I couldn't be more pleased with my decision to try it out. I had always been interested in doing carpentry, but needed to be sure that it was what I really wanted to do before committing to a four year apprenticeship. The Trade Start program was a total kick start for me. I was provided with all the gear I needed and was given a good mixture between theory and practical experience. I have since managed to secure a position with Gold Coast City Council as an apprentice carpenter. I would highly recommend the course to anyone thinking about it.

TAFE Queensland Gold Coast was very easy to deal with and I found the trainer extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Mick was able to come to site where appropriate and made sure that the dates and times we chose for any assessment and gap training could fit in around my work hours.

Together, HIA and TAFE Queensland Gold Coast have been providing a high level of engagement with local employers, both major and medium sized building companies, actively involved in the residential housing industry. In our view, TAFE Queensland Gold Coast provides quality programs which directly assist and target the up-skilling of our local trade and employee workforce. TAFE Queensland Gold Coast is the RTO of choice we recommend to prospective workers who require extensive training for entry into the building industry.

The overall learning experience was great and I was able to get together all the required evidence and then had to undertake a small amount of gap training which was also quite helpful. As a TAFE they operate very well and get the job done. I would highly recommend this process to any of my colleagues and or other people within the construction field who need a certificate and have the skills and knowledge.
