Apprentices and trainees

Apprenticeships and Traineeships combine practical hands on training with paid work.

Earn while you learn

Whilst other students may at university for three to four years, you'll be working full-time earning a wage while you learn

Hands on practical training

Learn by doing. An Apprenticeship and Traineeship gives you practical work experience.

A nationally recognised qualification

Your qualification as Apprentice or Trainee is nationally recognised so you work throughout Australia.

Financial incentives available

As an apprentice or trainee you may be eliguible for Government assistance including an accommodation allowance, travel subsidy, an Apprenticeship Trade Bonus and Youth Allowance.

What is the difference between an Apprenticeship and a Traineeship?

Apprenticeships and Traineeships both combine practical paid experience in the workplace with structured training.

An apprentice is trained in a skilled trade and upon completition will become a qualifed tradesperson.

A trainee is trained in a vocational area and upcon completion will receive a minumum of a Certificate II qualification.

How to gain an apprenticeship or a traineeship

Step 1

Complete a TAFE Queensland Gold Coast pre-apprenticeship course to trial the industry and increase your employability (optional). Or Commence your formal apprenticeship or traineeship whilst still at school (optional).

Step 2

Contact TAFE Queensland Gold Coast, who can assist in finding a business who is wanting to employ an apprentice or trainee.

Step 3

Commence work with your employer.

Step 4

Training contract drawn up by an Australian Apprenticeship Centre.

Step 5
