Trade Skills Assessment and Gap Training (TSAGT)

TAFE Queensland - Gold Coast Region is offering Trade Skills Assessment and Gap Training (TSAGT). This program provides eligible Queenslanders with work experience the opportunity to complete a formal qualification through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). Our specialists will work with you to have your industry skills and knowledge assessed and offer training to bridge the gaps so you can walk away with a formal qualification.

All RPL costs are funded by the Department of Education and Training.

The program's principal aims are to:

  • Minimise current and potential trade skills shortages
  • Address emerging trade skills needs in the economy or in communities
  • Support individual career advancement within industries
  • Enable individuals to attain a qualification in a priority trade area.

Who is eligible to receive training?

The TSAGT Program will target individuals assessed as demonstrating substantial competency in a priority trade qualification. Eligible participants will be skilled individuals who:

  1. Can successfully complete a minimum of 60% of the funded competencies in a priority trade qualification through recognition of prior learning (RPL).
  2. Require gap training of a minimum of 1 unit, but no more than 40% of the funded competencies of a priority trade qualification to enable completion of the qualification.

To be eligible, participants must also:

  • Be aged 21 years of age or over
  • Permanently reside in Queensland
  • Be an Australian citizen, or Australian permanent resident, Refugee and Humanitarian Visa Holder, temporary resident with the necessary visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency, or a New Zealand citizen.
  • Not have previously completed a trade qualification in the same industry area
  • Not be working for a government department or agency
  • Not currently be an apprentice or trainee as defined in the Further Education and Training Act 2014.

Selection of participants is at the discretion of TAFE Queensland - Gold Coast Region.

Students will pay a co-contribution fee including $1.60 per nominal hour for each Unit of Competency to be delivered under Gap Training plus any enrolment charges i.e. identification card, tuition fees, service fees, material fees and any other costs associated with delivering the training and assessment. All Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) costs are covered under the Queensland Government subsidy. Concession students are required to pay 40% of the student contribution fee.
