IELTS, the International English Language Testing System, is designed to assess the language ability of people who need to study or work where English is the language of communication.
IELTS is jointly owned by the British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia and Cambridge English Language Assessment. IELTS conforms to the highest international standards of language assessment. It covers the four language skills - listening, reading, writing and speaking.
IELTS is recognised by universities and employers in many countries, including Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the UK and the USA. It is also recognised by professional bodies, immigration authorities and other government agencies.

UK Visas and Immigration must now take their IELTS test at IDP IELTS test centre: the closest centre is in Sydney.
Changes to your processed application must be made in person (with your passport and receipt) to a TAFE Queensland Gold Coast Customer Service counter or by email (from the email account used on your application form) including your full name and test date.
Change to your test date:
If you need to transfer your test date, you must choose a new test date within three months of the original test date. If your request is approved a $82.50 administration fee applies. For further information visit cancel or change test date section below.
Mistake on results form:
If you made a mistake on your application form, an administrative fee of $25 must be paid to replace your results form with a new corrected copy. If we have made the mistake, we will replace your results form with a new corrected copy free of charge. In both cases we require the return of your original results form.
Two different test modules are available: Academic and General Training. Both modules cover all four language skills;
Language Skills Test Sections Duration
Writing: 2 tasks, 150 and 250 words 60 minutes
Reading: 3 sections, 40 items 60 minutes
Listening: 4 sections, 40 items 30 minutes
Speaking: 11-14 minutes
The Academic Module is for candidates wishing to study undergraduate or post graduate studies in English or for professional recognition.
General Training Module
The General Training Module is for candidates wanting to migrate to an English speaking country or study below a degree level.
Test fees: $330 AUD (excludes gst ) $363 AUD (includes gst)

- Membership of a professional or trade association

Test Day Registration commences at 8:15am and closes 8:50am. You must me seated in Test Room 10 minutes before commencement of Test.
What to bring to the test:
You must bring your passport with you on test day. No other form of identification will be accepted. Failure to produce your passport will result in exclusion from the test and ineligibility for a refund.
Permitted in test room: Passport/HB Pencils/Eraser/Pencil sharpener/Water in transparent bottle (labels removed).
Not permitted in the test room: Mobile phones/Watches/Pens/Keys/Food/Drinks (water excepted)/Electronic devices/Bags&wallets/Highlighters/Passport sleeves of loose papers/Hats & caps (except appropriate religious wear)

A baggage room is available for candidates to store belongings that are not permitted in the test room. The centre does not take responsibility for lost or stolen items. Therefore we recommend that no valuable items are brought to the centre.

Transfer test date:
Transfers must be requested in person more than five weeks before the original test date and be for an available test in the next three months. If you transfer more than five weeks before your test, a transfer fee of $82.50 (exc. GST) will be charged. If you do not give five weeks notice you must meet the guidelines for serious cause or you will not be able to transfer your test date. Example of serious cause include serious illness or injury, hospital admission, bereavement, hardship or trauma or military service. You must be able to provide proof to support you case. This proof can be a medical certificate, a death certificate or police report.
Cancel your test date:
If you cancel more than five weeks before your test, you will be charged a cancellation fee of $82.50. If you cancel within five weeks of the exam date, you will not receive a refund. However, please inform us that you will not be attending.
Within five weeks of the test, the exam fee is non-refundable unless satisfactory evidence, in English, of serious illness or serious cause e.g. bereavement or trauma is provided no later than 5 working days after the exam date.
Statutory declarations or certificates signed by family members is not accepted.
The only form of Identification accepted at this Test Centre is a Current Passport. A colour copy of the Candidate passport must be uploaded to the IELTS Online Application. Candidates must bring with them to Test Day, the same passport that is on the Candidate Application. No other identification is accepted. Candidates will not be able to enter the Test Centre without the correct Identification.

Which test module should I take?
We cannot advise you as to which module you should take. You must check which module to take with the organisation or institution requesting the test before you apply.

How much is the test?
The test is $330 exclusive of gst and $363 inclusive of gst. Find out which fee you are eligible for.
Can I cancel or transfer my test?
You can request to cancel or transfer your test date. There is an administrative fee of $75 to transfer your test date and $82.50 to cancel your test date. If the request for cancellation or transfer is approved, an administration fee of $82.50 will apply. For further information please read Changes to your application.
Can I request an additional test report?
You may not request an additional test report for yourself. You may however request an additional copy for a recognized institution such as employer or educational institution, up to five in total. Requests for additional copies of Test Report Forms must be made at time of application. If you request the copy after this date there is an administrative fee of $25 per test report.
Can I have my test remarked?

Can I get my results sent overseas?
We do not recommend having the results directly sent to your overseas address and cannot guarantee delivery. We are unable to replace any results that do not reach you. If you would like your results mailed overseas you must provide a stamped, addressed international envelope before the test.
Can I take the exam again?
If you want to take the exam again, you can apply again as soon as you are ready. There is no limit on the number of times you can take the test. Make sure you prepare properly for the exam by completing some practice materials.

Your IELTS results will be mailed to your home address 13 days after the test. You cannot collect your results or receive them by email, phone or fax. Your test results will be available online 13 days after your test date after 5pm and will remain available for 28 days. Please note that your IELTS test result from the preview cannot be used as an official confirmation of your score.

Candidates receive only one copy of their results. Results are generally recognised for up to two years; however you need to confirm the validity with the organisation where you are applying.
We do not recommend having your results sent overseas and cannot guarantee the delivery of mail to your country and will not replace any results that do not reach you. If you would like your results mailed overseas you must provide a stamped, addressed international envelope before the test.
Results for third parties:
IELTS test results can be sent to a maximum of five eligible receiving institutions by completing the Recognising Organisations on your application form. Include case / file number. Eligible receiving institutions are government departments, colleges and universities, professional associations and employers. Agents and family members cannot be nominated to receive Test report Forms.
Change of address:
If you change your address before the test date please advise us by email. Include your full name, test date, module and your new address. If you move without advising us, we cannot replace your Test Report Form.
Enquiry on results:
If you genuinely believe there has been a mistake with your score, you can apply in person for a re-mark of one or all modules of your test within six weeks of the test date.
To apply please visit a TAFE Queensland Gold Coast Customer Service counter and complete an Enquiry on Results form. The original Test Report Form must be submitted with the Enquiry on Result Form. A fee of $176 is required which is refundable if your score changes.
